From MATLAB to Python: Bringing Modern Control into the Open-Source World
Webinar Details
Thursday, 1 October 2026 15:00-15:45
Modern control workflows are no longer limited to a single software environment. While MATLAB and Simulink remain widely used for modelling, controller design and simulation, Python provides an open-source ecosystem with powerful tools for control engineering, numerical computation, robotics and machine learning.
In this webinar, we will start with familiar MATLAB and Simulink-based control approaches and show how the same control concepts and algorithms can be implemented using Python. Rather than treating Python as a completely different approach, we will demonstrate how an open-source Python workflow can be connected to Quanser hardware, using the QUBE as a real-time experimental platform.
This provides a practical path from controller design and simulation to implementation and testing on physical hardware. The goal is to show how Quanser platforms can be integrated into modern open-source control workflows, allowing engineers and researchers to use Python alongside real-time experimental systems.
What you’ll learn
- MATLAB/Simulink to Python control workflows
- Implementing control algorithms in Python
- Connecting Python with Quanser hardware
- Running controllers in real time on the QUBE
- From simulation to physical experimentation
