Citavi for DBServer
When using Citavi for DBServer, license management is handled centrally via the Citavi DBServer Manager and Windows Active Directory on the database server. Unlike Citavi for Windows, licenses are not assigned and managed online via Citavi accounts, but are controlled directly within your IT infrastructure.

Licensing Models
You can choose between the following license types:
PER SEAT License
- Assigned to a specific named user
- Available to the assigned user at any time
- Assignment to Active Directory groups is not supported
- License is cached locally for 56 days
- Enables working with local projects without a connection to the database server
- Cloud projects are supported, provided the user has a Citavi account
- All project roles can be assigned
- License can be reassigned by the administrator at any time
CONCURRENT License
- Shared among multiple users
- Each license can only be used by one user at a time
- The number of licenses defines the number of simultaneous users
- A license is only consumed when a Citavi project is opened
- Opening a Word document containing Citavi fields does not consume a license
- A license is required only when adding or editing references, as this requires opening the associated Citavi project
- All project roles can be assigned
- No local caching – a continuous connection to the database server is required
License Combinations
- Combining Per-Seat and Concurrent licenses is supported.
Recommended usage:
- Team members with regular or continuous access requirements should use Per-Seat licenses
- Other users share a defined number of Concurrent licenses
